In Collier County, Florida, several independent fire districts have worked together to provide fire protection for Collier County residents. Before decisions were made on whether or not to merge, it was important for district leaders to consider the financial implications of merging. Spatial forecast data was used to determine which areas would provide a fast rate of return due to residential growth.
When considering whether or not to consolidate their independent fire districts, multiple analyses were considered to determine the fiscal impacts of one department extending its boundaries to cover significantly more area. Due to careful, spatial analysis, the fire districts were consolidated without additional costs to residents or interruptions in service.
